Reneé Rapp – What Can I Do Lyrics
What Can I Do Lyrics By Reneé Rapp
“What Can I Do” is the fifth track on Reneé Rapp’s debut EP. In an interview with Rolling Stone Reneé revealed that:
“What Can I Do” is the first openly gay song that I ever wrote. Though I’ve been out for many, many years, I never ever wrote songs about my queer relationships. I only wrote them about my hetero relationships. And it was wild because I really wanted to; I just didn’t know how. I honestly think, looking back, that’s a touch of internalized homophobia … For me, that song is so important because it is the first queer song that I wrote that I was really proud of. And as somebody who’s bisexual, I think a lot of times it’s very easy for me to just exist in queerness as a bisexual person who only speaks on the hetero parts of my life. That song made me feel so good about the really colorful and gay parts of my life.
[Verse 1]
Your boyfriend’s in the bathroom and I’m holdin’ your hand
I wonder if he notices the things that I can
You don’t even get it, no, you don’t understand
I want you, but I know I’m only one of your friends
I know all about you, all your favorite things
I listen to your stories, all your wildest dreams
And you go on for hours, say he’s not what you need
You know you’re too good for him, but if it were me
[Pre-Chorus]
I’d give you everything, hmm
[Chorus]
So what can I do? Ooh-ooh
So you feel it too? Ooh-ooh
‘Cause I just wanna say it, but I’m scared if I do
You ain’t lookin’ at me the way I look at you
So what can I do? Ooh-ooh
So you feel it too? Ooh-ooh
I’d rather keep on lyin’ than to tell you the truth
So I’ll be here forever wonderin’ what can I, what can I do?
[Verse 2]
I’m sorry, but I’m picturin’ you kissin’ my neck
You comin’ over late at night to be in my bed
‘Cause I swear that you feel it, but then I second guess
I don’t know if you see us how I do in my head
[Pre-Chorus]
I’d give you everything, hmm
[Chorus]
So what can I do? (What can I do?) Ooh-ooh
So you feel it too? (You feel it too?) Ooh-ooh
‘Cause I just wanna say it, but I’m scared if I do
You ain’t lookin’ at me the way I look at you
So what can I do? (What can I do?) Ooh-ooh
So you feel it too? (You feel it too?) Ooh-ooh
I’d rather keep on lyin’ than to tell you the truth
So I’ll be here forever wonderin’ what can I, what can I do?
[Outro]
What can I do?
You feel it too?
What can I say?
Are, are you?
Are, are you?
