Montaigne & David Byrne – Always Be You Lyrics
Always Be You Lyrics by Montaigne & David Byrne
David Byrne had this to say about Montaigne:
Jess (Montaigne) approached me about singing on a song, or a possible collaboration and to be honest I had not heard of her. After my current show was safely up and running I checked out her new and old songs and quickly responded, yes! How could I have not been aware of this person? Someone I imagine might occasionally get labelled “quirky” — as I often am. How many artists would reference funny monologist Daniel Kitson?? But with Jess that quirkiness translates into complete heartfelt honesty and transparency about her feelings — feelings many of us might be ashamed or afraid to admit to — all set to incredibly infectious tunes. Brave, weird and catchy. Thrilled to be invited and love how the songs turned out.
[Verse 1: Montaigne]
When we first decided to be together
It felt like you felt like you’d made a mistake
Sometimes walking home from the shops, I’d hope
That the pink sunset would make me forget, but
[Chorus]
Anyway, anyway, anyway
Things are different
Anyway, anyway, anyway
Yeah, we made it
And I can say, I can say, I can say
In every single way
And every single day
[Refrain]
It’ll always be you
You might not always come through
But I know you’re trying to
So it’ll always be you
[Verse 2: David Byrne]
Every day we decide to be together
You know bout the point that Daniel Kitson made
Sometimes I still stare so hard at the moon
When I feel like I can’t be in the same room as you, but
[Chorus: David Byrne]
Anyway, anyway, anyway
Nothing’s perfect
Anyway, anyway, anyway
You are worth it
And I can say, I can say, I can say
In every single way
And every single day
[Refrain: Montaigne]
It’ll always be you
You might not always come through
But I know you’re trying to
So it’ll always be you
[Verse 3: David Byrne]
Should I meditate or should I simply wait?
And does it mean something when you hesitate?
And when you look that way, how am I supposed to say?
And if I get it wrong, will I be left alone?
[Break: Montaigne]
Anyway, anyway, anyway, anyway
(Anyway)
Anyway, anyway, anyway, anyway
(Anyway)
Anyway, anyway, anyway, anyway
It’ll always be you
[Refrain: Montaigne]
It’ll always be you
(It’ll always be you, it’ll always be you)
You might not always come through
But I know you’re trying to
So it’ll always be you
(It’ll always be you, it’ll always be you)
