“Every Time” was the sixth and final single from Janet Jackson’s The Velvet Rope album. Lyrically, the ballad is about being cautiously optimistic in romance. The music video has an aquatic theme as a partially nude Janet performs in the nude in a pool while wearing long curly hair and striking icy blue-green contact lenses.

Though it was only released promotionally in the US (notching a modest #125 on the Billboard Pop charts), in the UK it reached #9 on the R&B charts. International releases of the single featured a Jam & Lewis Disco Mix of the ballad that turned it into a uptempo house soundalike of the previous year’s #1 hit “Together Again.”
