Hope You’re Not Happy is a song written by Ashe for her ex-husband upon realising that she no longer wanted the best for him (unlike in her hit song, Moral of the Story). It is the second release since her debut album, Ashlyn.

Ashe has summarised the single by saying, “Some songs are about moving on and wishing someone the best. This is not that song.” She has also confessed that she hopes “it makes him angry”.

Snippets of Hope You’re Not Happy were first teased on TikTok in late March, with one video reaching over 1.2 million views. Ashe debuted the song on her second headline tour, The Fault Line Tour, over one month ahead of its release on May 6th 2022 (a date decided by her fans during her New York show).
