Ari Lennox – A/S/L (Interlude) Lyrics
A/S/L (Interlude) Lyrics by Ari Lennox
A/S/L stands for the words in the album title: age/sex/location. It is the only Interlude on the album.
In the interlude Ari talks about the way people used to greet each other in internet chat rooms. She was born in 1991 so she did not grew up with the social media we know today. Websites like MySpace where super popular.
Dating in those chatrooms often started like this:
A: „A/S/L?“
B: „18/Female/L.A.“
…
Nobody was able to proof if that information is true or not. Ari talks about how she herself always played with her profile and the infos in those chats.
It plays in to the theme of the album where she is talking about the men she meets in her life. They waste her time, are not the way they present themselves and don‘t meet her standards. Catfishes in real life?
[Interlude]
When you’re back in the game
That’s how you would greet someone, A-S-L
I mean, I would just be—, I would lie, I would catfish
It’s just more so, like, playing on a different time
Playing on chatrooms, internet, meeting people
Like, this is dating
Yeah, I was just, like, always older than what I was
Never used my real picture
I was the original catfish
