Adam Melchor – Turnham Green Lyrics
Turnham Green Lyrics by Adam Melchor
Turnham Green was officially released on August 5th, 2022, along with the music video on the Adam Melchor YouTube channel.
Adam wrote this song with his friend and singer-songwriter Emily Warren.
This song is his first of 2022, as well as the sixth track on his upcoming album, which could be released in the fall of 2022.
“[Turnham Green] is about thinking that somebody is someone and then they are not. How all the colors you paint your relationship with become different and you start seeing things that you maybe didn’t notice before.
Even though, as much as they explain the reason why something happened, it’s hard to just get it. Even if I can see it with their goggles on, it’s still not the same prescription.”
-Adam
He gave a more in-depth story behind making it on his Instagram and Twitter:
“there’s not too many places in LA to walk. in january 2022 i was in a low spot emotionally, and my dear friend emily warren asked me to walk over to her house. emily and i are neighbors, so it was an easy ask and damn did i need it. ever since we became friends, we have been
doing these cathartic walks around the neighborhood. through pandemic times, i would walk over, most times unannounced and see if her or any of her housemates wanted to hang.
we would talk about everything under the sun and it felt like time didn’t exist. we even joked about me not having anyones phone number, i would simply show up and ring the door bell like we were kids in the 90’s. so on this january day we had a “session booked” but really it was just an excuse to walk around town and catch up on life. emily could tell pretty quickly something was off and we spent about 7 hours talking about it. i didn’t even think of a “session” or “writing” i was just letting everything out in a way that i wasn’t able to before.
by 7 o’clock emily said, adam, i think i know what we should write about but it’s totally ok if you just want this to be something we talked
about. the way emily approached this idea with such ease and compassion made my heart full. i said first off, thank you for these options, and ye i wanted to write about it. she said, come over tomorrow and think about this line you said. she then told me a line i must’ve said about 5 hours previous. it was:
‘now all our memories are dyed another color.’”
[Verse 1]
You picked your chair to sit in
You made the bed in which you lay
I used to tuck you in it
You let your dreams take you away
The clock was always tickin’
I fought it off and stayed awake
But now these nights look different
The colors dyed another way
[Pre-Chorus]
So you asked me
What would I do
If just for a minute I was you
[Chorus]
I took every step
In your heart and in your head
I see what you see
But nothing looks right
You brought me somewhere I’d never be
[Verse 2]
You carved out your decision
Before you took the turn from me
The life we almost livеd in
The mornings walking Turnham Green
[Pre-Chorus]
So you asked me
What would I do
If just for a minutе I was you
[Chorus]
I took every step
In your heart and in your head
I see what you see
But nothing looks right
You brought me somewhere I’d never be
[Chorus]
I took every step
In your heart and in your head
I see what you see
But nothing looks right
You brought me somewhere I’d never be
