The Real Uzi is the debut mixtape by Lil Uzi Vert. The mixtape was released on August 5, 2014, and was hosted by Don Cannon. It shows a young, raw Lil Uzi, with an old favorite “Uzi.” This was released shortly after his Purple Thoughtz Vol. 1 EP, which was his first project.

It features Lee Mazin, A$AP Ant, Gillie Da Kid, and Kur. Thanks to Don Cannon, Lil Uzi got production from Metro Boomin. A$AP Ant’s feature would be the most important, as it would bring Lil Uzi into the familiarity of A$AP Ferg. A$AP Ferg would put the then-friends Rich the Kid and Lil Uzi onto “WDYW,” with Carnage at the forefront of the track. This would inevitably bring Lil Uzi’s name into the game, but he would not yet go mainstream or blow up. Also, after

becoming friends with those in A$AP Mob, he became friends with the up-and-coming artist Playboi Carti, and together they would make many tracks.

The next year, Don Cannon would sign Lil Uzi onto Cannon’s label, “Generation Now,” and Lil Uzi would release Luv Is Rage, Lil Uzi Vert vs. the World, The Perfect LUV Tape, and Luv Is Rage 2. He left after complications with his second studio album sprung up, Eternal Atake; mostly because of his label.
