Happily is Black Birdie’s sophomore studio album. So far, the theme of the album seems to follow one of growing up, loving yourself, and detaching from toxic relationships and people. It was originally planned for a September release however the artist pushed it back another month so as not to rush production.
The lead single “fiction” was released on February 14th, 2022. It was the first of four singles to receive critical acclaim from the online blog Music Daily. Music Daily’s Dominique Kendus describes the track as “a hard-hitting view of the unreliable narrator.”
The second single “get over it” was released on April 1st, 2022. It was the four of three singles to receive critical acclaim from the online blog Music Daily. It was described as “a chilling, piano- laden breakup song.”
The third single “RATED R” was released on May 2nd, 2022. It was the third of four singles to receive critical acclaim from the online blog Music Daily. It was described as “the greatest example of Black Birdie’s powerhouse vocals,” and “a sultry, intoxicating single.”
The fourth single “body” was released on June 9th, 2022. It was the fourth of four singles to receive critical acclaim from the online blog Music Daily via Podcast. It was described as having “a bass-heavy sound” and an “in-your-face vibe that [they] like to see.”
The fifth single “i can’t feel was released on August 12th, 2022.
The sixth and final single “roses & thorns” will be released on October 13th, 2022.
On October 10th, the artist uploaded an updated version of the tracklist which would remove “when i was ten” featuring American screamo singer-songwriter, Fukkpunk!. At the moment, it is unknown why the track was removed or what is intended for it if it will release as a single, deluxe track, or be scrapped entirely
